What is Barter (Product-for-Content Collaboration)?

Barter is a collaboration in which the creator is given product or services instead of a cash payment. Because there is no cash outflow, it is common among brands on tight budgets. The cost is not the product's retail price but its production and shipping cost; missing that distinction overstates the real cost of the collaboration.

Detail

Barter is limited by scale: accounts with large followings do not work for product, micro accounts do. The second limit is leverage; with no fee paid, there is less room to negotiate on delivery date and content quality, so expectations have to be written down and concrete: how many frames, which format, which date, which message. Product sent free of charge also has to be recorded in the books. If the content will be used as an ad, usage rights are obtained separately; giving product does not mean buying publishing rights.

Formula

Barter cost = Product cost + Shipping + (if any) content usage fee

Example

For a set with a retail price of 890 TL, if the product cost is 260 TL and shipping is 90 TL, the real barter cost is 350 TL.
