Desi is Turkey's volumetric shipping weight unit, the basis on which shipping fees are calculated. It is found by multiplying width, length and height and dividing by 3000; if the result exceeds the actual weight, shipping is charged on desi. On light but bulky products, this is usually where the profit disappears.
The most common mistake in Turkish e-commerce is looking at product weight and assuming shipping will be cheap. On pillows, cushions and bedding, desi runs several times the actual weight. Shrinking the packaging by 2 cm can sometimes drop you a full desi band and cut cost permanently.
Desi = (Width × Length × Height in cm) ÷ 3000
A 40×30×25 cm box → 30,000 ÷ 3000 = 10 desi. Even if the product weighs 2 kg, it is charged on 10 desi.
