What is Quality Score?

Quality Score is the 1–10 rating Google Ads gives to how well keyword, ad and landing page fit together. The higher the score, the less you pay to hold the same position. In practice, quality score is a discount.

Detail

It has three components: expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. The third is the one most often neglected — if what the ad promised is not visible on the first screen of the landing page, the score drops. Raising quality score is almost always a cheaper strategy than raising your bid.

Example

On an account that moves quality score from 4 to 8, cost per click typically falls 30%–50%.
